People are miserable, production suffers, and your customers will feel the ripple effect of a business with a group of unhappy, employees. I'm sure you have witnessed this – days when you come to work and everyone seems to be in a bad mood. It puts a downer on the atmosphere and the vibes in the workplace just don't feel right.

On the other hand, I'm sure you have come to work when employee motivation was high and employees were working like busy bees and enjoying what they were doing.

It's a whole different situation, and you like being in that kind of workplace. You enjoy the atmosphere and you may start to feel better than when you came in.

When employees are unmotivated, work suffers, the workplace becomes stagnant. Employees' lack of motivation becomes contagious and there's a ripple effect.

Look, not everyone can always be motivated, but there are many things you can do to boost morale.

Simple Employee Motivation

There are simple ways to keep employees motivated; you don't need to give weekly bonuses or constant perks.

Simple trivial incentives can work just as well. For example, just telling someone that you are happy with their work. And don't just say "good job". Say something like…

"I like the way you took care of that last customer, we could use more people like you, keep up the good work."

Another example would be:

"Joe, you did such a good job on the report you submitted, I want you to take Friday off with pay. Keep up the good work."

Here's another example:

"Jane, you did an excellent job on the Johnson proposal, Please take a friend to that new restaurant that opened up. Here's a $50 dollar gift certificate. Have fun and keep up the good work."

Another way to increase employee motivation is by simply informing your employee how important their job is, and how it affects other people.

For example: "We don't make brake pads; we help save lives when brakes are needed most!"

Here Are A Few More Examples For Employee Motivation:

  • Employee WorkingYou could give awards for achievements, like a recognition plaque.
  • You could have employee lunches.
  • You could have family fun days.
  • You could give away passes to popular events in the area.
  • You could run employee "productivity contests," with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes.
Points to Keep in mind:
    • Take some time to consider which employee incentives will boost employee performance.
    • The last thing you want is a bunch of unhappy people working for you. For one thing, it rubs off on you and suddenly you feel unhappy and you can't figure out why.
    • When employee motivation is low, you'll have a lot of employee turnover, which is costly and time consuming because you have to find and train new employees.
    Ideas for motivating your employees are endless, take my advice and take every opportunity you can to keep employee motivation at the highest level possible.
